Women empowerment through skills training

Empowering Tanzanian women in the field of science and technology applied to Agriculture

The program Empowering Tanzanian Women in the Field of Science and Technology applied to Agriculture provides the foundation to build and sustain ICT businesses led by women. Geared to support the females that are driving the change in the sector, the program provides the necessary digital skills to support technological and scientific business ventures.

Statement of Needs

Diversity is critical in tech, as it enables companies to create better and safer products that take everyone into consideration, not just one section of society. Moreover, it has been proven that diverse companies perform better, hire better talent, have more engaged employees, and retain workers better than companies that do not focus on diversity and inclusion. Despite this, Tanzanian women remain widely underrepresented in ICT roles.

Moreover, regardless of their active role in agriculture, women own fewer assets, have less access to necessary agricultural yields and receive less education and training in these areas compared to men in Tanzania. The main cause of this persistent gap is established traditional gender roles. Women often face more difficulties in owning land, establishing credit and gaining access to proper resources. However, when given the proper tools, women are bond to provide a substantial positive effect on both the economy and agricultural output.

Tanzanian women in science and technology are still underrepresented, underpaid, and often discriminated against in the tech industry. One of the main causes of this persistent gap is the gendered biases along with the insufficient support that it exists for females in the sector to thrive in their careers and business ventures. However, it is proven that when women are provided with the right resources, they are bond to provide a substantial positive output in their industries.

Closing the gender gap is imperative to making progress in Tanzania’s economy and increasing ICT output. By empowering ICT female actors and increasing their access to appropriate digital training, women have the capacity to support profitable business ventures to capitalize on their professional efforts.
